My son Jerimy really thought the world of Edgar. He would come home all the time and tell me about their conversations. When it came time to take SPN 102 he told me to make sure he had the class with Edgar. Jerimy was in Edgars SPN 102 class Spring 07. He didn’t finish the class because he died in a car accident. I am sure that they are catching up now. Sad for us – happy for them. My prayers are with the family.
Mr. Montano was a wonderful teacher. I took his spanish classes when I was out at Logan. When I went to SIU and several friends that needed to spanish to fulfill a requirement and I would always tell to go to John A Logan and take Mr. Montano’s class. I was very surprised to hear that he had passed. He always had a smile on his face I don’t think I ever saw him without it. He will be truly missed but greatly remembered.
I am stunned by the loss of Edgar, my dear colleague and esteemed amigo. His broad smile and compassionate heart will be missed by all of us. My sympathy to his children and to his family in Colombia.
I am shocked and deeply saddened by this unexpected loss. I just can’t imagine our hallways without Edgar’s kind presence.
Last year I served on a search committee that Edgar chaired. I learned that he was an incredible listener, he encouraged input, and he made sure everyone was heard. I enjoyed enrolling students in his classes because I knew they would not only learn the content from this patient teacher, but also some of the cultural context that enlivens the language.
I regret that I won’t have the opportunity to know him better, but I am grateful for the encounters that I had with him. I will miss him.
I was a student worker in his office spring semester, and am currently working out of state for the summer. I was very shocked to hear from a friend that he has passed. He always had that smile on his face, a hello and goodbye for everyone, and a one of a kind laugh. My heart goes out to his family, friends, and everyone at the college. He will be missed.
Such a sad thing! Edgar always had a smile, an “Hola!” and lots of patience with my very pathetic Spanish. Because of my food allergies he helped me learn to order my meals in Spanish so that I could avoid the things I was allergic to. And, some years ago, he walked by my car at the Longbranch as I was singing along to one of my favorite Julio Iglesias songs. He translated it and always teased me about singing along to a song when I had no idea what I was singing. He was an asset to our community in many ways — professionally and personally. He will be missed!
In the short time that I got to know Edgar, he became a good friend. His smile would radiate a brightness every place he went. God Bless Edgar’s family during their time of grief and sorrow. He will truly be missed.
Your Dad was a wonderful man and meant so much to all of us at John A. Logan College. He always brightened my day when I ran into him and he was a joy to be around. We attended a conference together a few months ago (with Toy, Vangie, Gayle, and Monique) and we had a great time together. He was so patient with all of us. You can imagine what it’s like to travel with five women. I will miss his him.
For the last several years, Edgar had been teaching me Spanish one word at a time. It was a running joke between us. It was just never in my plan for the need to use two of those words together in the same sentance –especially to him.
Adios Amigo! You will be sooo missed! You were a gentleman’s gentleman.
I feel honored to have been both a friend and fellow colleague of Edgar. He was extremely special. My son, Daniel, absolutely loved him as a teacher. In fact, he attended my son’s SIU graduation party. His death is a loss to all of us who were privileged to know him and to have shared in his life. He has left a legacy for everyone.
Edgar’s office was next door to mine for several years. I never saw him without a smile. He was always ready with an Hola! His quiet presence will be truly missed.
When Edgar and I became dept. chairs the same year, we “consulted” often on the procedures we were to follow or the projects we were to complete. He was always patient and thoughtful, and we ended most of our “consultations” with renewed energy and much laughter. I will miss him and his ideas greatly. His infectious smile, his unique laughter, and that stylish manner of dress will be missed everyday in his classroom, in the halls, and in my heart. Heavy sigh……Adios, Edgar…..
Words cannot fully express the sadness I feel having lost a colleague and friend. He was a wonderul person, with an infectious smile.
In addition to my sadness, my husband is deeply upset at the loss of Edgar. Howard had the pleasure of having Edgar as an instructor and playing soccer with him in recent years. Edgar was a referee for the Southern Illinois Adult Soccer League; he was always fair and had an incredible way of calming down a bunch of over-zealous athletes. :)
My sympathy goes out to all his family and friends. He will be missed by all.
I had known Edgar for several years. He has always been cheerful, witty and an all around great guy! When he walked though the halls you always knew that he was going to be in a good mood. I never knew him not to greet you with a pleasant hello and a warming smile. I will always miss being able to chat with him if only for just a few minutes and I always looked forward to bumping into him because you just knew his presence permeated the hallways and rooms of this college with his joy. He will be sadly missed by all!God’s Blessings to his family and friends at this difficult time. My thoughts and Prayers are with them. Thanks Edgar, for touching all of our lives with your grace.
My condolences to the family and all friends to the loss of Edgar. I was to have him this fall and am devestated. He was always very cheerful and friendly to everyone and will be very sadly missed, by all who knew him always.
Edgar will be fondly remembered by the many lives he touched. He was a genuine person. His comforting voice, gentle smile, and kind words will be greatly missed. My thoughts and prayers are sent out to his family during this very sad time.
We both came to JALC in August of 1993, had nearby offices and my home is just around the corner from his house in Carbondale.
Edgar was a wonderful man and had a gift ot touching many lives just by his presence. He always had a calming effect on me. Many a time his smile and an insightful comment helped me to put things in perspective and make it through a day.
My condolences to Sally and to his children and family in Colombia.
Shortly after Edgar became Department Chair he came to my office to get approaval on a recruitment mailer. By the time he left my office not only had I approved the mailer, but I was paying for the printing as well. By the time it was all said and done I paid for the envelopes and postage too. I asked Edgar if he wanted me to stuff the envelopes too, he responded with that big smile and an even bigger laugh, and I had a new friend. He will be greatly missed by everyone at the College. His family will be in thoughts and prayers.
“We must not, in trying to think about how we can make a big difference, ignore the small daily differences that we can make which, over time, add up to big differences that we often cannot foresee.” – Marian Wright Edelman, lawyer, educator activist
I have never known anyone who epitomized this quotation better than Edgar. So many little things he said and did made such big differences in the lives of so many. the world is a better place because he lived.
Amigo,
Gracious, compassionate, charming, congenial, kind, civilized, devoted, charitable, enjoyable, amusing, witty, friend, colleague, educator. You were all of these things and more. So many of us are going to miss the light of your smile at Logan, St. Frances Xavier, around Carbondale (and at Hugh’s).
Vaya con Dios
Karen
Edgar — such a loss. He was a true gentleman and one of great class. He always had a big smile and a “Hola” for everyone he met. My one regret is that I will not get to know him better. Like Deana, I would try out my Spanish on him when I saw him in the hallways. To my surprise, he never did start to turn and run when he saw me coming down the hall. I cannot ever remember not seeing him with that big smile that seemed to light up the whole room he was in. The only thing I can think is that God needed a first class person to help with the Spanish in heaven, and he could not have picked a better person for the job. God Bless his family and friends during this most trying of times.
Edgar just made life better! He lived a life with joy and privileged all of us by inviting us in to celebrate each day with him. It was a great pleasure to work in the presence of such a wonderful man.
I was shocked and devastated to hear of Edgar’s death. He was a wonderful person, dedicated, talented and loving. He was also exemplary when it comes to diversity issues. I will always remember him and feel very fortunate to have known him. He will be greatly missed.
In all the time I have been at Logan, no one has ever been more welcoming every day than Edgar. I have always heard he was a joy to work with but I know he was a joy to exchange “Hola” with in the hall. Adios amigo!
Edgar was my friend, colleague and Spanish teacher. I admired him for his great attitude, sunny disposition and skillful teaching. Learning Spanish was fun, and it was because of him that was true. I will miss him a great deal–his “Hola Professora” and his wonderful smile. It is a great loss to JALC, and I offer my condolences to his family and friends.
Edgar was my colleague, but more important, he was my friend, or mi amigo. As he has with many, he touched my life, as well as my family’s. His beaming smile and friendly voice would light up and fill a room. His office and mine were next to each other, so one can imagine how great it was to see him regularly. I have watched him over the years make a difference in so many people’s lives. He made each person better for knowing him and those who were fortunate to have been a part of his life are truly blessed. So, even though Edgar’s passing has saddened and made us feel empty, we are the winners for knowing such a fine person.
I am sad to hear that such a good man has left us. Mr. Montano had a way of brightening anyone’s day with a simply “hola.” He was always cheerful with a smile on his face. I remember going home almost every night with a story to tell my parents or brother about Edgar’s class. I know that his students will miss him. He was such an asset to John A. Logan College. My prayers go out to his family.
Edgar Montano was a gentleman and a man of honor and dignity, both personally and professionally. I am saddened that he has left us–it is a loss for our College and community. I had the opportunity to work with Edgar in his position as Chair of the Humanities Department, as a fellow colleague, and to know him as a member of my community; and I am a better person because of this. He “raised us up” just a bit with his grace. My sincere condolences to his family and loved ones–I mourn your loss.
Edgar was a dear and considerate man. Over the years I would also greet him in the hallways with my limited Spanish. Every time he’d return that greeting to me with that distinctive smile.
As his family struggles to cope with this sudden and devastating loss, they are assured of being comforted by “the God of all comfort”-Jehovah. He promises to comfort their hearts. – 2Corinthians 1:3; 2Thessalonians 2:16,17.
Mr. Montano was one of the best teachers I have ever had. He was not only a great teacher, but also a wonderful person with a big heart. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.
How can we start talking about such a nice guy. We are from Argentina and moved to Carbondale and at a soccer tournament we meet “El Profe” and we clicked right away. He was the family that we left abroad. We spent 2-3 nights out the week and his home sharing endless conversations. Those were good times. I loved hugging him! I wish I could have one more chat with him and that is what hearts the most.
Today I’m very sad but mostly because I would loved to tell him all this
Profe, we will miss you so much, Maurice, Fer and family.
As a professor, Sr. Montano made learning enjoyable and enduring. But it is as a person that he made his most lasting effect. Edgar was a man who made you want to be a better person. His smile lit up a room, and his laugh warmed the coldest heart. He cared so much for each every person in his life, and his loss leaves an empty space in all our hearts. A great light in the world has gone out. His spirit, though, will live on in the hearts of all he touched.
Edgar was a true leader and a citizen of the world. He will always be a special person in my life. The entire staff at Shawnee Community College extends sympathy to our friends at JALC.
Edgar was a fine man, great teacher and gentle soul. He will be missed by many. And that smile was truly “infectious”. Upon seeing it, one couldn’t help but respond in kind. My sincere condolences to his family.
Edgar always had a big smile on his face. He always asked about my family. My daughter had him in class and she would always say what a wonder teacher Senor was. John A. Logan College has lost a wonderful person. I will truly miss him.
Edgar Montano was a friend of mine. I will miss his life-loving smile and the courtly way he nodded his hello to me. His “Ola, professora” lifted my spirits every time I heard it, and I always smiled and bowed right back…. He carried himself with such class, quiet self-respect, and humility and was no doubt unaware that he helped me try to be better than I might have been. I am grateful for his beautiful life.
to my “Unofficial” Spanish teacher, I regret never following up on the promise to take your class to refresh my “espanol”—but our constant conversations in the hallway kept me in the spirit…
such a kind heart, always a warm greeting—
you will be missed “amigo”
Edgar Montano was one of my favorite people to see walking toward me in the hallways. He always had a liveliness in his step and a sincerity in his smile that seemed to lift my spirits. And when he spoke to me, even if it was just a quick, “Hi, Harry!”, I could tell that he really meant it.
There was no phoniness about Edgar. He displayed a rare genuineness of spirit that is a valuable quality in any human being.
The good memories we have of him will help sustain us when we realize how much we miss him.
I am very shocked to hear such horrifying news. I am going to miss him with such a great deal. I am still in shock. I don’t even know what to say. He was such an amazing person. I am going to miss his smile when walking down the hallway.
I had Professor Montano for spanish first semester of this past year. we met mon-thur at 9 am for a two hour class. Tho i did not happen to pass the class, I still enjoyed every day of it. Spanish has never been my thing, but professor Montano found a way to teach all of us, including those of us who were not willing to learn, a lot about the spanish language. He was a bright person with a warm personality. He made me feel that if i cared, so would he. I apreciate all that i learned from him and i hope his passing was with ease.
I am a player and the president of the Southern Illinois Adult Soccer League as well as a fellow soccer referee.
Edgar was an excellent referee whom everyone respected. More importantly, he was a great human being, always laughing, always smiling.
His whistle is silent now.
Thanks Edgar. You will be missed.
JALC has lost an outstanding teacher, but even more, an outstanding human being. I am blessed to have known you Edgar, your smile and kindness will be missed by all.
I ws shock to hear about Mr. Montano. My famliy and I meet Edgar when he was teaching bilingaul edcuation in Cobden. He was a very sentive cultural human-being. He would of gave his shirt off his back to help any of these migrant children.
He help fight for the bilibgaul education rights and for the children.
My son was very attached to Edgar. He was a great inspiration to my son. He was not only a teacher he respected but someone who he looked up to abd seek advice from.
this is one man that made a postive impact for my famliy and many migrant families and children.
I would like to express my deepest sympathies go out to his children and famliy.
No nos decimo adios Edgar si no hast pronto juntamos otra ves.
Tio mio! It is with great sadness that I leave a note on this memorial page. I just received the call from his niece and the news have not really sinked in. I was a student and protege of Professor Montano, ten years ago, while I was completing my MS at SIU. I audited one of his Spanish courses and came out of the class with more than understanding Spanish.
Professor Montano was a beloved father, uncle, and friend to many. Even though, we were not related, he welcomed me to his house and his life. I affectionately called him “tio” which means uncle in Spanish because he always treated me like his own. I have not kept in touch as much as I should have the past few years but we still had a great relationship.
I just wanted to recognize a great man who lived a great life. He was fond of all his students and treated everyone with respect. I still remember the advice he gave me and the salsa moves he so kindly passed on to me. My prayers go to all his friends and family.
Rest in peace beloved Uncle. Que Dieu t’accepte dans son paradis! Amine.
I had the pleasure of studying along side Edgar at SIU as graduate student and then to work along side him here at John A. Logan College. Throughout these years he was always a generous, sympathetic presence in my life that I could count on for a shared chuckle or observation. I and the other members of my family who had the honor to know him as friend or instructor will miss him. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, collegues and students.
I am so very heartsick. I read of Edgar’s passing online yesterday. He is such a gentleman. No matter what during my time at Logan, his smile managed to sweeten my disposition.
Even though I left JALC several years ago to teach up north in Champaign, when I returned home to Carbondale and ran into Edgar, usually walking around campus lake, he always greeted me with such a beautiful, warm smile and took time to talk with me. He was so attentive, gracious, and never seemed to let anything ruffle his spirit.
May God bless his family and his Logan family.
“When you are sorrowful look again in your heart, and you shall see that in truth you are weeping for that which has been your delight.”–Kahlil Gibran
I am so sad to hear of this loss. He was a wonderful man and always pushed my to work harder in his class. He had a wonderful smile. On New Years Eve I saw him at the movies. He quickly greeted me with Hola! and continued for a moment quizzing me on my spanish. I am truly shocked and He will be missed. Thank you Edgar for touching my life.
I didn’t know Edgar well. We would pass in the hallways and greet each other, exhange pleasantries at Word Processing. He was also friendly and cheerful. The Logan community– faculty, staff, and students, past and present– has lost a person of value. Future students will never know him, and they have lost as much as anyone.
I came to know Professor Montano when I took SPN 101 Fall Semester 2007. I was at a great disadvantage since I had never taken a foreign language and I was the same as as my instructor. Professor Montano was a true gentleman and a most genuine individual. He made a great impression on me in the classroom as I saw his patience with me and others who were stuggling to learn Spanish. He taught me a great respect for the Spanish culture and language. My condolences to the loved ones he leaves behind. Adios Profesor.
Never a frown, but always a smile and a cordial greeting. That seemed to be Edgar’s way. What a tribute! What a legacy for his family and friends! What a blessing to all that he met! Our prayer will be that God will fill that void in the lives of Edgar’s family members and friends. Let us carry on the legacy he has given to so many.
I knew Mr Montano through his niece Diana who is my best friend…I am deeply sorry of your loss and my prayers are with all of your friends and the rest of the family. His smile and all his kindness will be missed.
Although I only knew Edgar for a short time, I always ejoyed seeing and talking to him. As others have said, his smile and laughter always lit up a room. He will be missed.
I looked forward to seeing Edgar when getting to work in the mornings — often he was the first person I would see and what a welcome it was — that big smile and “hola” – what a way to start your day. He will truly be missed. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.
I took Spanish classes with Mr. Montano at JALC. He always greeted me with a smile when I passed him in the college. He was my favorite Spanish teacher and he did a wonderful job. He will be missed. My prayers will be with his family and friends.
I am very saddened to hear of this loss. Edgar was someone who went out of his way to make everyone feel comfortable – and for someone who was a new teacher that went a long way toward encouraging my development at JALC. He always took time to extend a pleasant greeting, exchange ideas, and was such a great model and mentor as a department head and professor.
He was a blessing to everyone he encountered in life. I will miss his warmth and his welcoming manner – which in so many ways became a symbol of what JALC is to everyone.
The other day in the middle of a golf match my cell phone rang. It was a very sad young lady from Carterville High School who at the time was in Mexico on a church mission. She had taken Edgar’s Spanish classes on campus and had heard of his sad passing. She called to ask me to pass along her condolences to the family. Thanks Rebekah!
That is the impact Edgar had on his students. In the words of yet another of Edgar’s students, “He brought so much happiness to JALC.”
Even if you were having a bad day, it was always nice to see Edgar in the hall. Because things always seemed brighter after talking to him even for just a minute or two. I know his family is proud of the man he was and the respect that the JALC family had for him. He will be missed by so many.
“Profe”, que Dios siempre te tenga en la gloria, que descanses en paz y siempre te recordare como un padre y un amigo. La bendicion Profe, como siempre te la pedia cada vez que te veia.
As a second father for me, It is so hard to believe that you have left physically this world; However, you will always be in my heart. I will always remember the days, when we were trying to resolve the world’s problems and discuss the different aspects of life. What a beautiful days and nights!!!!!!!!
My thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time. I hope your treasured memories can give you some comfort.
As I just sat and read Edgar’s obituary, with the tears streaming down my face, I am reminded again of the great loss to the college. Edgar was one of those people you just could count on—whether it was on a committee or just bringing that wonderful smile through the hallways and into a room. He was loved by his colleagues and students. His actions proved he loved all of us as well.
I will miss Edgar’s diplomacy, that dazzling smile and his charming accent. His absence will leave not only a void on campus but also a hole in my heart.
To Edgar’s family I send my sincere sympathy. Edgar was a deeply sensitive man, sensitive to world events and sensitive to his students and colleagues. I will miss him dearly. I hope that you all get comfort from the fond remembrances you read here and know of the gentleness that he brought to our lives.
Edgar was a friend to all students and peers. He always looked at the positive side of life and truly enoyed laughing and working with others. He has made a lasting impression on all of us and will be greatly missed. My thoughts and prayers are with all family and friends.
I see Edgar in his classy white warm-up suit. I hear his voice singing in Spanish as he strummed his guitar. I feel such a sense of loss for someone who was such a positive influence on so many lives. He was such a gentle man who will be greatly missed.
I believe that someone enters your life for a reason. Whether there be a lesson taught or learned, I thank God I got the priviledge to know you. God bless you on your journey, in Jesus name.
Oswaldo.
Edgar had a smile and a kind word for everyone he met. Just this summer I sent a student to speak with him about her educational and career choices, and she came away so impressed with him and looking forward to beginning the study of Spanish with Edgar. I looked forward to him being my daughter’s instructor when she begins college next year.
Somewhere in heaven the music and dancing has just gotten much better, and now we all know who the best dressed angel is. Hasta la vista, my friend.
Edgar and I often passed one another in the halls as we went to our classes and we always greeted one another in Spanish, which showed how understanding he was since my Spanish was so American. He always had a kind smile and a friendly greeting. He served on the C&I Committee with me and he was well prepared and he had such a good disposition as he dealt with issues related to his work as department chair. He never had an unkind word to say to or about anyone. He was a super person, and his presence will be sorely missed at Logan.
I am only sorry that I did not take the time to get to know Edgar at a deeper level. (I thought I had many more years to talk with him.) Having lived in Argentina for a period of time, we could relate our experiences in South America to our experiences here. He loved soccer and he seemed to be in such great shape. He was far too young to leave us so soon. My prayer for the family is that God will bless you with the wonderful memories of Edgar and his life and that He will give you a sense of peace and comfort in this terribly difficult time. I already miss seeing him, but I, too, have such good memories of him and his life here at John A. Logan College.
Edgar is one of those special people we are so fortunate to know in our brief journey in this life. As a fellow department chair and colleague, I very much enjoyed and appreciated the times that I was able to spend with Edgar. I never, ever, saw him in a bad mood or have the least bit of anger. He definitely was a special person whom we will all miss. I’m sure that St. Peter greeted him with “a job well done” at heaven’s gate.
17 years in Carbondale! It seems like yesterday that you and Amelia serenaded us in Jeronimo’s house in Tunja. La UPTC will miss you pal as much as J A Logan.
I give my condolences to the Montano family. I was deeply saddened to hear the news. I had Mr. Montano as a teacher when I took Spanish 102, He will be missed, he was a great teacher.
I was unable to write anything until now…ironic for someone whose life’s work has revolved around words. I started thinking the other day about how much I will miss singing Christmas carols in Spanish with Edgar at Perry’s annual Christmas sing. I miss his smile and words of encouragement at work. I miss hearing his guitar and laughter coming through the walls next door as he taught his students Spanish without them even realizing it. With whom do I talk “futbol” now? (a trait Edgar said made me a crazy American) I don’t think there was anyone more passionate about the game. I spoke with Edgar the Friday before he died, and we talked about our health (we would always remind each other to take better care of ourselves…another irony), about classes and students and teaching and language (our love of all those things), “futbol” (Spain winning the European Cup), and most importantly, our children (we always inquired of one another how all the “children” were doing). Your pictures lined his office wall. He talked excitedly about visits (yours and his). He loved you all. I know the geographic distance was difficult for all of you, but he carried all of you with him always in his heart. You carry with you the best of your father/uncle…his attention to appearance, his grace and dignity, and most of all his compassion for others. He made each one of us feel special and loved, especially when we were at our most unloveable. He was a good man.

Edgar will be missed by all. My sympathy to his family and friends.
It will be sad not to see Edgar’s smile anymore. I would like to express my deepest sympathy to all who knew Edgar. He will be missed very much.
In the short time that I got to know Edgar, he became a good friend. His smile would radiate a brightness every place he went. God Bless Edgar’s family during their time of grief and sorrow. He will truly be missed.
To Edgar’s children and family,
Your Dad was a wonderful man and meant so much to all of us at John A.
God Bless.
For the last several years, Edgar had been teaching me Spanish one word at a time. It was a running joke between us. It was just never in my plan for the need to use two of those words together in the same sentance –especially to him.
Adios Amigo! You will be sooo missed! You were a gentleman’s gentleman.
I will miss Edgar’s smile. Mi mas sentido pesame.
My condolences to Edgar’s partner, Sally, and his family.
I want to express my condolences to all of Edgar’s family and friends. He always had a smile for everyone. He will be missed by all.
Edgar was so sweet and always smelled so good….hahaha…He always had a smile and a kind word.
I will miss you Edgar…you were a treat to be around.
Edgar was truly a wonderful human being. John A. Logan has suffered a tremendous loss. My prayers go out to his family and friends.
We are deeply sad to hear the news . All your friends in the Latin community will miss you. Our condolences to the family.” Descansa en Paz”.
Edgar will be fondly remembered by the many lives he touched. He was a genuine person. His comforting voice, gentle smile, and kind words will be greatly missed. My thoughts and prayers are sent out to his family during this very sad time.
I am shocked by the news of Edgar’s passing.
Edgar -I miss you and I’ll never forget you.

As well as being an exceptional teacher, Edgar was such a terrifically kind person. I feel very fortunate to have known him. What a loss to all of us.
My heart is greatly saddened. We have lost a gracious gentleman. My condolences to his family, friends and colleagues.
Adios amigo, for now.
A gentle soul with many years of quiet wisdom. You will be sorely missed. adiós, mi amigo
I will miss you Edgar.
Vaya con Dios.
Edgar always had a smile on his face and a warm greeting for everyone in the hallway. He will be dearly missed.
Edgar always had a big smile on his face. He always asked about my family. My daughter had him in class and she would always say what a wonder teacher Senor was. John A. Logan College has lost a wonderful person. I will truly miss him.
Edgar: your smile was your trademark. Will miss seeing you in the halls.
Edgar was such a wonderful person and I learned so much from him. He will be greatly missed. My deepest sympathies to his family.
I am grateful for his beautiful life.
to my “Unofficial” Spanish teacher, I regret never following up on the promise to take your class to refresh my “espanol”—but our constant conversations in the hallway kept me in the spirit…
such a kind heart, always a warm greeting—
you will be missed “amigo”
my thoughts and prayers go out to Edgar’s family…
Edgar Montano was one of my favorite people to see walking toward me in the hallways. He always had a liveliness in his step and a sincerity in his smile that seemed to lift my spirits. And when he spoke to me, even if it was just a quick, “Hi, Harry!”, I could tell that he really meant it.
There was no phoniness about Edgar. He displayed a rare genuineness of spirit that is a valuable quality in any human being.
The good memories we have of him will help sustain us when we realize how much we miss him.
Thanks, Edgar–for everything.
I apreciate all that i learned from him and i hope his passing was with ease.
love & prayers to the Montano Family

I was shocked to hear of Edgar’s passing. He always had a smile on his face when I saw him. He will be greatly missed.

AMIGO
Language translates easily
in a warming smile,
a friendly face,
a life paced with dignity and charm
in a calming presence
that will never fully fade.
Adios, amigo.
Ellie
To Edgar’s family:
You don’t know most of us, but our hearts are with you.
Edgar had a calm strength that showed in the smile, the eyes, and the walk.
Although his life was short – too short for us – we were all privileged to know him. He lifted our lives. He was the example we all hope to become.
There is no way to measure the loss, but the impact of his life is noted above, a life lived well, full, and honorably.
He will be forever in our hearts.
You will be truly missed, Amigo. Vaya con Dios.

To Edgar’s children & family:
Edgar was a very dear and special friend to us. Our prayers go out to his family and friends.
Graciliano Ruiz
We pass Edgar’s home on our morning dog walk. His infectious smile, wave, ”Hello!” is a gracious component of our neighborhood. We’ll miss him.
Edgar – vaya con Dios.
I would like to express my deepest sympathy to all of Edgar’s family and friends.
I was very shocked to hear of Edgar’s passing. He always greeted you with a big smile. He’ll be missed by all.
Sincere condolences again to the family of a true gentleman. We miss him too.
Medellin, Agosto 29-2008
